The ministry of the Altar Server is to assist the priest and/or deacon on the altar while growing closer to God in one’s own life. Through service on the Altar, servers help the congregation to better understand the Mass. Further through the servers’ witness, they help to strengthen the community’s love for God. The presence of these young people at the altar is an important witness, reminding us that Catholics of every age have gifts to offer and a role in the ministry.
Altar servers assist during the celebration of Sunday Mass. In addition, they serve at weddings, First Communion, Confirmation, and other special celebrations in the life of the Church, including, Holy Days, Holy Week liturgies, Christmas, Easter, and Stations of the Cross. The ministry is open to all youth of the parish who have achieved the third grade, made their First Communion, and whose parents believe they are ready and responsible enough to be trained. The parish invites all adults who are interested in serving as well.
Meetings are scheduled as needed, usually on a Thursday evening beginning at 7 pm. Optimal Meeting frequency is quarterly, but not less than twice per year, including ongoing formation.
Attentiveness, Faithfulness, Maturity, and Team Oriented.
There is no monetary cost to be an Altar Server.
